Chief Executive, University of Otago’s Language Centre and Foundation Year
Roger McElwain has been the CEO of the University of Otago’s Language Centre and Foundation Year (UOLCFY) since February 2012, leading the organisation through a period of significant development and change.
Roger’s own education background includes a science degree from the University of Otago, a Masters of Philosophy (Massey) and a Masters in International Studies (Otago).
Roger spent 25 years in the NZ Army, including operational tours to Bougainville and Afghanistan and command of Waiouru and Burnham Military Camps. In the latter role, he led the Army’s response to the Christchurch earthquakes in 2010 and 2011.
Outside work, he is Deputy Chairman of Dunedin’s WW100 Governance Committee, a Trust Board Member of the Montecillo War Veteran’s Hospital and Home, and a member of Rotary. He also maintains a keen interest in environmental matters.
