Mary Furnari is currently Team Leader of International Student Support at the University of Otago. Mary brings to her role over 25 years of experience in international education, including many years as an international student adviser and more recently, leadership roles in both U.S. and New Zealand institutions.
Originally from the U.S., Mary has lived and worked in China twice and speaks Mandarin. She is passionate about intercultural education and is currently finishing a PhD thesis examining the role of reflection and the development of intercultural competence.
In her free time, Mary enjoys outdoor pursuits including, biking, hiking, gardening and stand-up paddle boarding, and she is an avid rugby fan! Mary’s family are also at Otago – her husband is a medical education adviser and her daughter is in her honour’s year.
