Lian-Hong Brebner has worked at AUT for over 10 years in several roles within Student Services. She is now responsible for designing strategies and developing programme initiatives to promote the integration and active engagement of students from diverse backgrounds with campus life.
Lian-Hong has extensive experience working with tertiary students from diverse backgrounds. Hailing from Singapore, she is now married to a New Zealander. Lian-Hong was an international student herself in the early 1990s and, on completion of her undergraduate study, she worked for a non-profit organisation to provide pastoral care for international students across New Zealand universities.
Lian-Hong holds a Masters of Philosophy in Sociology from Massey University. Her Masters thesis explored the dynamic of intercultural interactions between Pākehā and Asian international students in a New Zealand university. She is also a Certified Coach and regularly supervises peer leaders and staff to support their professional development.
