Chris Beard has worked in international education for 24 years and co-teaches Victoria University of Wellington’s new online Postgraduate International Education course.
For many years, Chris has had a dual role teaching and supporting at-risk students on university-based foundation studies programmes. He is currently a member of ISANA New Zealand’s Executive Committee and in this role liaises with government officials and participates in Ministry of Education reference groups.
Chris convened the National Safety Advisory Group for international students in 2006, whose work was cited in a 2009 Universities Australia paper. He also led the 2010 International Student Support Advisory Council proposal on behalf of ISANA New Zealand. The proposal’s recommendations for a cross-sector facilitative hub foreshadowed the International Student Support Framework initiative.
Chris has a Masters in Applied Linguistics/Second Language Teaching and is studying toward a Graduate Diploma of Teaching with a view to investigating innovative international education practice in New Zealand secondary schools.
