Brett Berquist has over 25 years experience in the international education industry, in Europe, the United States, and Asia, as academic staff and administrator leading international recruitment strategy, transnational education, ESL provision, campus-wide internationalisation strategy, and credit mobility.
At Michigan State University, he led the largest public university mobility programme in the US and chaired the international committee of the Big 10 network (15 research universities, 500,000 students).
He began his career chairing applied languages departments in Europe during the early years of the Erasmus mobility program with career benefit central to institutional and individual motivation to study abroad. In the 1990s, he led a business school in Paris from 10% international participation to 98%. As Director International at the University of Auckland, one of his KPIs is 25% participation in overseas learning by 2020.
