At NZIEC 2016, the Ministry of Education foreshadowed a report on stay rates for international students in New Zealand. This landmark study was published in February 2017 with a depth of data unprecedented in the international education field.

With a sample size exceeding 130,000 international students, it offers us detailed information on how our international students transition to residency, work, exit to another country or return home. It does not, however, compare our performance to other major international education markets.

With about one in three international students remaining in New Zealand five years after finishing their qualification, is the glass half-empty or half-full?

In this panel, representatives from across the international education industry¬†will share their reflections on this landmark study, how they interpret the data and what implications this has for our industry’s future.
